Colorado Upcoming Horse Shows

February: Upcoming Equestrian Events

Upcoming Equestrian Events

If you own horses or love horses, the Colorado Springs area is a great place to live. There are numerous horse properties and boarding stables available. There are lots of places to go trail riding. There are also numerous horse shows, clinics and gymkhanas scheduled throughout the year that are all within a short drive of the Colorado Springs area. If you don’t want to ride, you can enjoy watching any of these events as a spectator or as an auditor. The following is a sampling of equestrian events that are being held in February in Colorado. If you know of an event that you would like me to include on this list for February or upcoming months, please feel send me the information.

First things first: Mark your calendars. The Colorado Horse Council’s Rocky Mountain Horse Expo is next month (March). The Rocky Mountain Horse Expo is my favorite single event, in Colorado, to attend as a spectator. There are activities for people that admire horses and for all levels of horse owners. This amazing event has art, shopping and it showcases a variety of riding styles, disciplines and breeds. The pre-expo clinics are March 8 and 9, 2017.   The Rocky Mountain Expo will be on March 10-12th at the National Western Stock Complex in Denver. Be sure to check out their website for the details and schedules.

Play Days / Gymkhanas

Gymkhana’s at horse shows are fun timed events that showcase both control of the horse and the ability to ride. A variety of races are held and they frequently include: stake races, pole bending, barrel races, flag races, dollar bill races, egg races etc. These fun events are usually are geared towards families with children as the kids learn to ride and compete. What an exciting full calendar for the month of February for the horse enthusiast. I had never even heard of a Gymkhana before so it is nice to know what that is. Have fun if you attend many of these yourself. How entertaining and exciting at the same time.

February is a full month for horse enthusiasts. There is no way that I’ll have time to attend all of these events since I’m trying to get my horses ready to be shown.

I’m glad that my description of gymkhana was helpful.
